I am married and a father of 3 and a Product Manager. There are a lot of similarities between these 2 roles. Your decisions are not always popular. You have to make hard prioritization decisions and sometimes you have to talk to people about things you are not that familiar with.
In Product, finding a market problem that people are willing to pay to solve and then exceeding expectations is what drives me every day in my current role. Time Management, Task Organization, and Team Communication is a struggle that I believe most people experience. I have certainly experienced this through working as both the Product Manager and Product Owner for multiple agile software teams. It was through this journey that I found tools online to help navigate the complexity of my work and personal life. Ideally, if you can identify a problem you’ve experienced, as a product manager you have more empathy for the Users and that drives you to find solutions to problems.
What is so special about being a product manager is what you learn and practice is not just about products. It’s lessons about life. The best lessons I learned as a product manager have made me a better human, carried over into my personal life, and helped me be a better parent. Prioritizing is one of the most essential life skills.
As a father, watching my children get older in this fast-paced world of instant information, it is important for me to help guide them to focus not only on themselves but on the people around them. To slow down and appreciate that their time is the most valuable commodity they have.
I read a lot and spend time riding my bike and running (or at least what might resemble running if you squint) with my friends, mainly as an excuse to have a cup of coffee and catch up.
This site came out of my experiences.
